Happy Fourth!

Yesterday was a good day, despite a couple hangups with my video collecting. I tried to interview the 5-year-old who is the center of my story, and needless to say, getting a 5-year-old to sit still for more than 10 seconds is very near impossible - getting him to answer questions just didn't happen.

BUT, here they say "mai pen rai" or the Thai equivalent to "no pasa nada" - meaning "forget it, don't worry about it, it's allllll good."

The sunset last night was just incredible, incredible, incredible. I'm not on my computer now, but I'll post a picture later. Uncle Dan, I did take pictures of myself today, I'll post them when I get the chance.

I spent the morning reading over the script of my video interview, and now I'm beginning to craft all the pictures, audio and video I've taken into some sort of story. Tonight I'm sleeping out with "my" family - the subjects of my story - probably on the floor under a mosquito net.

After that, everyone in our group has one or two more days to continue collecting material for their stories, and then hardcore editing begins. For me, this is going to be a very slow process as I learn a lot. But my story is very, very touching, I just hope I can do it justice.

More later,

XO, Julie

I want a picture of you sleeping under the mosquito net, just to show your nervous parents, whoever they are, that you're actually doing it.
