Well I'm home in Maryland right now, and I'm preparing for the next step, i.e. my foray into America's real south, Argentina.
I keep calling the trip a leap of faith, and really that's what it is. I can tell that although I'm outwardly excited, I'm also inwardly terrified - last night I dreamt that I suddenly had 15 minutes to get to the airport to make my flight to Argentina, leaving me absolutely no time to pack. I woke up in a sweat - apparently the thought of going down south without my suede boots and skinny jeans was just absolutely terrifying.
This no-time-to-pack dream is nothing new. Before I went to Spain last year, I dreamt that I arrived in Sevilla to discover a suitcase full of bikinis and nothing else. Right.
Anyway, as much as I'm shivering-ly terrified, this IS the right thing for me. Today made that painstakingly obvious: Two months ago I thought about taking a position at a newspaper instead of traveling to BA. Today I learned that the person who took that position instead of me has already been laid off. Newspapers. Sighhhh. Economy. Sighhhhh. Buenos Aires. YAY!
Above: La Boca, a barrio in Argentina. This isn't my picture, but hopefully I'll have some to contribute soon.
