Giving thanks

My friends Marcelo and Ben in Lomas de Zamora on Sunday.

It's the night before Thanksgiving, and all through Argentina . . . there is not a canned pumpkin or a cranberry to be found. Hence, my Thanksgiving in Buenos Aires will be slightly different.

It will not, however, be without friends and lots of good food, and I feel really lucky to have those two things. My roommates and I have invited over our patchwork of American and Argentine friends, and so tomorrow night we'll have our own little celebration. I made a pathetic attempt today to search for the ingredients for my mom's famous pumpkin bread, but my lack of a bread pan and the apparent absence of canned pumpkin in Argentina has sort of put the brakes on that idea. (So sad!)  Instead I'll be rushing home from work to bake a much simpler apple crisp (directions: Peel apples. Add sugar. Bake.)

In the midst of all the craziness that is going on in the world at the moment, I feel really lucky to be here, experiencing new things and meeting new people.

Happy Thanksgiving to all of you in all your different parts of the world! Que lo pases bien!
